Helmet Size Guide: Bike & Ski Helmet Fit
Learn how to measure your head circumference and find the right bike or ski helmet size. Use our helmet size converter for US, UK, EU, and CM sizing.
Finding the right helmet size is critical for safety, whether you are cycling on the road or skiing down a mountain. A helmet that is too loose can shift on impact, while one that is too tight causes discomfort. Use our helmet size converter to translate your head measurement into the correct international size.
How to Measure Your Head Circumference
Wrap a soft measuring tape around the widest part of your head, roughly one inch above your eyebrows and just above your ears. The tape should be snug but not tight. Record the measurement in centimeters — this is your helmet size. Most adult helmet sizes range from 51 cm (XS) to 65 cm (XXL). If you fall between sizes, choose the larger size and use the fitting pads to adjust.
Bike Helmet vs Ski Helmet Sizing Differences
While both helmet types use the same head circumference measurement, bike helmets tend to have a rounder shape with more ventilation, while ski helmets are lower-profile with insulation and sometimes a visor. Ski helmets also need to accommodate goggles. Check the shape rating of your helmet brand and use our helmet sizing tool to verify your conversion between US, UK, and EU labels.
Testing the Fit Before You Ride
Once your helmet is on and strapped, perform the shake test: nod your head and move it side to side. The helmet should stay in place without shifting. Open your mouth wide — the helmet should pull down slightly. If it rolls forward over your eyes or backward off your forehead, adjust the strap tension and padding or try a different size.
